4,300) seeks a Water/Wastewater Operator to perform tasks relative to the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of the Town's wastewater and water system facilities and infrastructure.

Located in central Arizona, Clarkdale is a charming, historic town, on the banks of the Verde River and at the base of Mingus Mountain.
The Water Services Division treats and distributes potable water to over 1,900 customers each day.
They also operate the Clarkdale Wastewater Treatment Plant and provide wastewater collection services to over 1,100 customers.
Under direction of the Water Resources Manager performs tasks relative to day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of the Town's wastewater and water system facilities and infrastructure.
This position also requires performance in a broad range of functions related to capital improvement projects relative to the performance of these systems.

Job DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Adheres to goals, objectives, priorities, policies and procedures of the Town of Clarkdale and the Public Works Department.
Responds to emergency call outs, troubleshoots problems, and takes action to ensure plant/system integrity.
Conducts inspections of work in progress and verifies completeness for compliance with safety requirements, department policies, and state and federal requirements.
Compiles daily readings, operational information and data for reports and record keeping.
Reviews laboratory sample data for water quality; collects regulatory samples and analyzes daily regulatory and process control samples.
Operates, monitors, and maintains pumps, blowers, chlorinators, filters, and other water/wastewater treatment equipment.
Assists in the preparation of monthly regulatory reports and other reports relative to water/wastewater treatment and distribution/collection systems as needed.
Responds to and works to resolve citizen inquiries and complaints relating to the operation of the water/wastewater treatment and distribution/collection systems, related facilities, and system infrastructure.
Performs as needed repairs, maintenance, and construction activities of the division and coordinates related projects with other Town departments and Public Works divisions.
Operates equipment including vehicles as needed to perform repairs, maintenance, and construction activities of the Town's water/wastewater systems.
Performs maintenance on Town reservoirs, effluent holding ponds, effluent land application site, treatment facilities, distribution system and or collection system components.
Regularly performs work with and around reagents and chemicals used to sample water and or wastewater, and in the treatment of water and/or wastewater.
Performs work with hand tools and power equipment for the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater lines.
Assists with grounds maintenance.
Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of modern principles and practices of municipal water and wastewater works.
Knowledge of technical resource documents for water and wastewater treatment and collection activities.
Materials, methods, and tools used in the maintenance of water and sewer systems, and motorized equipment.
Knowledge of equipment and underground utilities.
Safe working practices of Public Works maintenance trades.
Motorized equipment capabilities, sizes, components, and applications.
Applicable State, Federal, and local laws, regulations, and policies as they relate to the assigned area of responsibility including OSHA laws, regulations, standards, and EPA regulations.
Modern office practices, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
Skill and Ability to:
Skilled in working with and around high voltage control panels that operate system wells, pump stations, and treatment facilities.
Skilled in working effectively and safely around chemicals used to collect samples and in the treatment of water and/or wastewater.
Some chemicals may be toxic.
Skilled in working effectively with and around high-pressure cleaning equipment and with power equipment for the maintenance and cleaning of sewer lines.
Ability to effectively communicate orally, written and electronically at all levels professionally and including individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic, and culturally diverse backgrounds.
Ability to effectively and safely work in confined spaces such as manholes and pump stations and storage tanks up to 20 feet deep for maintenance activities.
Ability to safely climb storage tanks and construction ladders up to 20 feet high.
Ability to oversee and mentor trainees in the safe practices of water and wastewater operations as required by the Water Resources Manager.
QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Equivalent combination of education and professional experience which provides the applicant with knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job will be considered.
High school diploma or GED required.
Arizona Operator Certification for Wastewater Treatment Plant and/or Collection Systems, and/or Arizona Operator Certification for Water Treatment and Water Distribution is desirable.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Must possess a valid Arizona drivers' license at time of appointment and maintain an excellent driving record.
Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) highly preferred.
Must be able to respond to call out within forty-five (45) minutes.
Must complete online training and testing with National Incident Management System (NIMS) through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) within six (6) months of hire and maintain current/ongoing certification as needed.
Possession of or ability to obtain a State of Arizona Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, Wastewater Collection System Operator, Water Treatment Operator, Water Distribution System Operator Certification.
May be required to work overtime, holidays and weekends and be on-call 24 (twenty-four) hours per day, per the departmental On-Call Policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This classification involves work that requires that ability to traverse uneven terrain and use of the public works vehicles for transportation to job sites.
Work will be divided between the office and work sites as required.
Work will require travel throughout the Town for project inspections, to various locations to attend meetings, or to specific locations for seminars and training as needed.
May be required to work outside normally scheduled hours, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
